History
The Department of Psychology at Malatya Turgut Özal University was established by an official decree published in the Official Gazette on March 10, 2021, and began admitting its first students in the Fall semester of the 2023–2024 academic year. The department is located within the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences.
The academic staff of the Department of Psychology consists of one associate professor, two assistant professors (Ph.D.), and one research assistant.
As a young and dynamic department, Psychology at Malatya Turgut Özal University is committed to continuous development and academic growth.
Program Profile
The Department of Psychology offers a four-year undergraduate program designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge in both the theoretical and applied fields of psychology and to cultivate individuals equipped with scientific thinking skills. The program aims to ensure that students master the fundamental concepts, theories, and approaches in psychology, conduct scientific research, and transform the knowledge they acquire into social benefit within an ethical framework.
Accordingly, the program aims for its graduates to possess the following qualifications:

Comprehensive knowledge of general psychology and its sub-disciplines. To gain competence in core areas such as clinical psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, experimental psychology, and psychometrics.

Scientific thinking and critical reasoning skills. To evaluate theoretical and applied knowledge in psychology from an analytical perspective.

Proficiency in scientific research processes. To effectively use research methods, generate new knowledge, and contribute to the academic literature.

Application of professional knowledge and skills within ethical principles. To act in accordance with professional ethical standards in the field of psychology.

Social awareness and a sense of responsibility. To use psychological knowledge effectively in line with the needs of individuals and society.

Competence in applied fields of psychology. To learn the methods and techniques used in different subfields of psychology and to be well-prepared for professional life.
The curriculum includes not only theoretical courses covering the fundamental areas of psychology but also practical courses that enable students to apply their knowledge. Starting from the third semester, elective courses aligned with students’ interests and professional goals are offered to support specialization.
Through this holistic educational approach, graduates are trained to become competent individuals in all areas of psychological science—capable of conducting scientific research, upholding ethical responsibility, and demonstrating strong social sensitivity.
