History
The Department of Psychology at Malatya Turgut Özal University was established by a decision published in the Official Gazette on March 10, 2021, and began admitting its first students in the Fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. The department is part of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences.
The academic staff of the Psychology Department consists of one associate professor, two assistant professors, and one research assistant.
With its young and dynamic structure, the Psychology Department is committed to continuous growth and development.

Program Profile
The Psychology Department offers a four-year undergraduate program designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge in both theoretical and applied aspects of psychology while fostering scientific thinking skills. The program aims to ensure that students master the core concepts, theories, and approaches of psychology, conduct scientific research, and apply their knowledge ethically for societal benefit.
Accordingly, graduates of the program are expected to possess the following qualifications:
- A comprehensive understanding of general psychology and its subfields, including clinical psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, experimental psychology, and psychometrics.
- Strong scientific thinking and critical reasoning skills, enabling them to analyze theoretical and applied knowledge from an analytical perspective.
- Proficiency in scientific research processes, effectively utilizing research methodologies to generate new knowledge and contribute to academic literature.
- The ability to apply professional knowledge and skills in accordance with ethical principles, adhering to professional ethical standards in the field of psychology.
- A sense of social awareness and responsibility, using psychological knowledge effectively to address individual and societal needs.

The curriculum includes not only theoretical courses covering the fundamental areas of psychology but also practical courses that allow students to apply their knowledge. From the third semester onward, students can choose elective courses aligned with their interests and career goals, allowing for specialization.
